River fishing trips are taken on the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers. The Kenai River is fished from custom Willie Predator powerboats while the Kasilof is fished from Fish-rite drift boats. All tackle provided is top of the line G-Loomis rods with high quality Shimano Calcutta or Stradic reels. The Kasilof River provides steady action for King Salmon from mid May through June 20th. Most fish range from 15-25 pounds. During this time of year, All Alaska Outdoors' guides enjoy fishing on this river because of the nearly 100% success rate we can achieve for our guests. The Kenai River offers fishing for King Salmon during the same time frame and fish will generally run between 20-40 pounds. However, in May and June this fishery is very dependent on water depth and clarity, as we are often not permitted to use bait. Additionally, the Kenai is managed as a "catch and release" fishery in May/June with no retention of fish between 44 and 55 inches allowed. On June 15th, trout fishing opens up on the Kenai and our guides have great success on light tackle for large Rainbows. Fish from 10 to 20 pounds are caught and released every week. These fish can occasionally be taken on flies. July is when we focus our efforts on the Kenai’s giant King Salmon. Fish range from 40-60 pounds with occasional specimens in the 70's, 80's and once in a while even in the 90's! The Kenai escapement in July is usually 35-50 thousand strong and the angler's success rate is usually better than 50%. Bait opens on July 1st and the largest fish often return during the first week with the run peaking around the middle of the month. Fishing generally remains good until the season closes on July 31st. July and early August offer the additional opportunity to fish for Sockeye Salmon on the Kenai River. The fishing is fast and furious by mid July for these feisty 8-12 pound ocean fresh fish. There is normally a three fish daily limit, but when escapements are high the limit often increases to six fish. In August we shift gears for Silver Salmon. Both the Kenai and Kasilof rivers have good fisheries and typically our guests catch their two fish limit each day. Silver Salmon (also known as Coho) are a hard-fighting acrobatic fish that are great fun on the light tackle provided. Silvers remain in these rivers and are prime targets in September when the Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden fishery below Skilak Lake really begins to take off. Fast action is the rule with Dollies ranging from 2-8 pounds and Trout weighing 10 pounds are caught regularly. Fishing is done with trolling plugs, or drifting Salmon egg, or flesh fly patterns. So, both spinning and fly-anglers can enjoy this resource!

Most people think of Alaskan salt-water fishing as strictly Halibut, but we believe this salt-water experience can include more. The Alaskan coastline offers rare scenic beauty and natural wildlife viewing. Nowhere can this be better appreciated than out of Seward and Resurrection Bay. Sightings of Sea Otters, Sea Lions, Seals, and Puffins are extremely common and you can expect to view Orca and Humpback whales about half of the time. Coastal tides out of Seward are less dramatic than in the Cook Inlet therefore offering longer slack tides and allowing anglers to fish with less weight to reach the bottom. In addition to Halibut, Seward offers fishing for Sea Bass all season, Lingcod after July 1st, and Silvers in mid to latter July and August. Fishing out of Deep Creek or Homer, on the Cook Inlet side of the Kenai Peninsula, offers the opportunity to catch very large Halibut, but trips must be carefully coordinated with respect to daily tidal exchange for maximum success. With proper timing you can expect to have a very good chance at a monster flatfish.

All Alaska Outdoors' Basic Package includes the rare experience of flying in a float equipped Turbine Otter from our lodge dock into the remote wilderness of South Central Alaska to fish. Trips taken in May and early June will be for Northern Pike. The lake system we target has fast action for fish in the 1-5 pound range. Specimens up to 25 pounds have been landed. The plane and guide will stay with you for the day and if you like, we can stop in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge to fish for Rainbow Trout. On about June10th, our attention turns to Wolverine Creek and feisty Sockeye Salmon. You will be dropped off, with your guide, to fish from our boats at Wolverine Creek. This tiny, clear stream gets an average annual Sockeye return of 70-90 thousand fish, which makes for steady action and fantastic bear viewing. Coastal brown bear (some with cubs) can be seen safely at close distances and the mountain scenery is breathtaking. This fishery continues until late July when we start to see the return of Silver Salmon to this fishery and the Kustatan River. Once again, you will be taken by boat to the fishing grounds where you will experience Silver Salmon on light tackle. If you prefer to fly-fish then bring your 7-8 wt. fly rod along and you will likely experience an excellent day of sight fishing to large Silvers.
